FAQ
Is my data private?
Yes. Your entries live on your phone. We sync a copy to our server so you can restore on a new device, but no one at Brighten reads them. Ever. We don't sell data, we don't run ads, and we never will.
How do I export my entries?
Open the app → Profile → Backup & export → tap Export entries. You'll get a JSON file you can save to iCloud, email to yourself, or keep wherever you trust.
How do I import entries on a new phone?
Profile → Backup & export → tap Import entries → pick your saved JSON file. Your crystal will rehydrate to where it was.
Why doesn't my crystal level up?
Crystal levels are based on total entries plus consistency. Roughly: a few entries gets you to Stirring, a couple weeks of regular logging gets you to Forming, and so on. The exact thresholds are intentionally a little mysterious — that's part of it.
How do I change my reminder time?
Profile → Reminders → tap to open the picker. Change the time or frequency. Tap done.
How do I turn off all notifications?
Profile → Reminders → choose "When I need it." No nudges. The app stays exactly where it is.
My crystal looks dim. Did I do something wrong?
No. The crystal dims when you stop logging. It's not punishment — it's just showing you the truth. Log an entry and it brightens again.
Can I delete an entry?
Yes. Open Insights → tap the entry → tap Delete. The entry disappears, but your crystal level doesn't go down. We trust you.
Can I edit an entry?
Yes. Same path — Insights → tap the entry → tap Edit.
Will Brighten work without internet?
Yes. The app works fully offline. Entries save to your phone instantly and sync to our server when you reconnect.
How do I delete everything?
Profile → scroll to the bottom → "Reset everything." This wipes all your entries (locally and on our server) and dims the crystal back to Seedling. Cannot be undone.

Troubleshooting
App won't open
Force-quit and reopen. If it still won't open, delete and reinstall — your entries are backed up to our server and will rehydrate when you sign back in.
Reminder isn't firing
Check iOS Settings → Notifications → Brighten → make sure they're enabled. Then in the app: Profile → Reminders → confirm a time is set.
Crystal isn't animating
Check iOS Settings → Accessibility → Motion → if Reduce Motion is on, the crystal will be still by design but should still brighten with each entry. That's intentional.
