Brighten is made by Act Two, Inc. We respect your privacy. This page explains what we collect, why, and what we don't.
In plain English: we collect the bare minimum needed to make the app work. We don't sell data, don't show ads, and don't share with anyone except as required by law.
What we collect
A device ID
When you open Brighten for the first time, your phone generates an anonymous device ID. We use it to associate your entries with your device so they survive an app reinstall. It's not your name, email, or anything that identifies you personally.
Your entries
The three lines you write — what you want, what you did, what's the proof — are stored on your phone and synced to our server. We do this so you can restore your data if you switch phones or delete the app. We do not read your entries, share them, or use them for anything else.
Your name (only if you give it)
When you set up Brighten, we ask for your first name. This is stored on your phone only. It is never sent to our server.
Your goal and reminder settings
What you're brightening toward (Money, Love, Body, Work, Calm, or your custom answer) and how often you want a nudge. Stored on your phone and synced to our server with your entries.
What we don't collect
- Your real name, email, phone number, or address
- Your location
- Your contacts, photos, or files
- Your browsing history or any data outside Brighten
- Anything from third-party trackers (we don't use them)
- Any health data
- Any financial data
How we use what we collect
We use your device ID and entries solely to make Brighten work — so your data persists, your crystal brightens correctly, and you can restore on a new phone.
We do not:
- Sell your data
- Share your data with advertisers
- Use your entries to train AI
- Read individual entries
- Run any kind of analytics on the content of what you write
How it's stored
Your entries are stored:
- On your phone in encrypted local storage
- On our server (hosted in the United States), associated with your device ID
Server backups are encrypted at rest. Connections between your phone and our server are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
Your rights
You can:
- Export your entries anytime via Profile → Backup & export
- Delete your entries one at a time, or
- Delete everything via Profile → Reset everything (this wipes both your phone and our server)
You don't need to ask permission. The app does it directly.
If you want a manual deletion request or have questions, email privacy@seebrighten.com.
Children
Brighten is not intended for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe we have, email us and we'll delete it immediately.
Changes
If we ever change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also trigger an in-app notice the next time you open Brighten.
